Michael Irwin is a Consultant Traffic Accident Investigator, residing in Newcastle upon Tyne, an Associate in Wayman Consultancy Ltd.  He is a full Member of the Institute of Traffic Accident Investigators, (MITAI), an Associate Member of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers (AMIRTE) and an Associate Member of the Society of Operations Engineers (AMSOE).

Michael served for 30 years with the Northumbria Police, 25 years as a Road Traffic Officer and 14 years as a specialist accident investigator. Forensic accident investigation training and application over a period of 14 years has enhanced his skills and experience.

Michael has practised as a Traffic Accident Investigator since his retirement from the Police Force. His civil and criminal court expert witness experience in respect of Forensic Accident Investigation extends from 1990.

Dave Burgess is a Consultant Forensic Collision Investigator residing in Dorset, an Associate of Wayman Consultancy.  He is a full member of the Institute of Traffic Accident Investigators (M.I.T.A.I.) and holds a Licentiateship with the City & Guilds Institute (L.C.G.I.)

Dave served with Dorset Police for over 24 years. In 1988 he commenced Road Policing Duties and has been involved in Collision Investigation work since 1994.  In 2000 Dave became a full time member of the Dorset Police Collision Investigation Unit attending a numerous collision and major crime scenes.  He has presented evidence in Magistrates, Crown and Civil courts.

Brendan Shardlow M.I.T.A.I.  (London)

Before joining the Police Service Brendan Shardlow spent almost 2 years employed by Goodyear Tyre and Rubber Co. Ltd. as an Area Sales representative. He served with the Metropolitan Police, London between January 1972 and October 2001, joining the Traffic Division in August 1975. In September 1988, he became a full time Accident Investigator. He is a full Member of the Institute of Traffic Accident Investigators.
He has presented evidence in the Central Criminal Court and other Crown Courts and has also presented evidence in many different Coroners and Magistrates Courts as well as at the Royal Courts of Justice and County Courts in Appeal and civil litigation cases.
From September 2000 until October 2001I Brendan was the Senior Collision Investigator for the North West area of London.

Vehicle Examiner
Ian Soulsby  (Wiltshire)

Ian Soulsby is a vehicle examiner residing in Melksham Wiltshire. Ian initially trained as a Master Shipwright and Engineering Draughtsman. He worked for the Ministry of Defence at both Portsmouth and Bath. He worked on both surface ships and submarines in the areas of radar, sonar, countermeasures and weapons systems before leaving to become a Director of a Plant Hire company. He later joined the Wiltshire Constabulary serving as a Traffic Patrol officer and qualified Vehicle Examiner. He holds the BTEC Higher National Certificate in Forensic Vehicle Examination in addition to several City and Guilds qualifications. He is qualified in the operation of all types of mechanical excavators, construction and agricultural machinery with some 37 years of Mechanical Engineering and driving experience.

Mike Fell MITAI. LCGI  (Dorset)

Mike Fell is a Consultant Traffic Accident Investigator, residing in Dorset, an Associate in Wayman Consultancy and AC Consulting. He is a full Member of the Institute of Traffic Accident Investigators, (MITAI), and a Licentiate of the City and Guilds Institute (LCGI).
Mike served for 30 years with the Dorset Police. Between 1988 and 1995 he instructed on the Police City & Guilds Accident Investigation training courses at No. 6 Region Police driving school Wiltshire, becoming the senior instructor between 1991 and 1995.

Mike has practised as an Accident Investigation trainer / consultant in both the United Kingdom and overseas since 1995. His civil and criminal court expert witness experience in respect of Forensic Accident Investigation extends from 1987.

Kelvin Harper M.I.T.A.I.  (South Wales)

Kelvin served with the Surrey Police, for over 31 years, joining the Traffic Department in April 1976. In 1984 he started work as an accident investigator. He holds the City and Guilds Accident Investigation Certificate for Police Officers and the BTEC Higher National Certificate in Forensic Vehicle Examination along with many other technical qualifications in related fields. He is a full Member of the Institute of Traffic Accident Investigators (MITAI).

Crash Investigator and Vehicle Examiner
Derek Hance, M.A. (Dist.), M.I.T.A.I., M.S.O.E., M.I.R.T.E., R.F.P.  (London)

Derek Hance is an Accident Investigator & Vehicle Examiner residing in South East London, near the Kent Border. He served over 30 years with the Metropolitan Police Service, more than half of which was as a Traffic Patrol Officer. From 1991 to his retirement in 2003 Derek was a full time Accident Investigator for the Metropolitan Police South East Area. In his last two years he was promoted to Senior Accident Investigator, in charge of a team of six full time Accident Investigators and responsible for the quality control of expert reports.

During his Police Service Derek became a class one advanced police driver, police motorcyclist and was trained to drive all classes of heavy goods and passenger carrying vehicles. Throughout his service he undertook numerous training courses in or allied to Accident Investigation and Vehicle Examination and has been considered an expert in these fields for many years. He has extensive experience in: the scientific examination of road accident scenes; the examination of crash vehicles and analysis of damage; the preparation of detailed reports; and the delivery of expert testimony to Courts and other Tribunals.

In July 1996 Derek gained his postgraduate degree at the Middlesex University, Master of Arts (with Distinction) in Accident Investigation (Work Based Learning Studies).

Since retirement Derek has worked as an Independent Consultant in Accident Investigation. He also assists with the training of police officers in Accident Investigation at the Technical Training Wing of the Metropolitan Police College at Hendon.

Simon Tutton L.C.G.I., M.I.T.A.I.


Based in Warwickshire, Simon Tutton served with the West Midlands Police, between October 1982 and September 2000, being retired on medical grounds having sustained very serious injuries whilst on duty, he joined the Traffic Department in 1990. He was trained in the operation of weighbridges and was authorised to weigh vehicles and trailers, he was also trained in the use all of the speed detection devices as used by the West Midlands Police at that time. In 1991, he was trained to become a Vehicle Examiner. In 1992 he was trained and became an Accident Investigator, in 1994 he passed the Advanced City and Guilds examinations in Road Accident Investigation; in 1997 he passed the advanced City and Guilds examinations in Motor Vehicle Examination. He is a full Member of the Institute of Traffic Accident Investigators. In 2002 he was awarded Licentiateship to the City and Guilds Institute of London in the Field of Traffic Accident Investigation.
He has presented expert evidence in Crown Court as well as many different Coroners and Magistrates Courts in Criminal, Appeal and civil litigation cases.

Phil Purvis MITAI LCGI RFP Cert Ed   (Dorset)

Phil is a Consultant Collision Investigator residing in Dorset, an Associate Consultant to Wayman Consultancy. He is a full member of the Institute of Traffic Accident Investigators,(MITAI)  a Licentiate of the City & Guilds Institute, (LCGI) a Registered Forensic Practitioner (RFP) and he holds training qualification (Cert .Ed.)

Phil served 30 years Police service in Dorset, 27 years as a traffic specialist and qualified as a Collision Investigation specialist in 1985. He served fifteen years as a member of Dorset Police Collision Investigation Unit.

Since his retirement from Police Service in 2007 he has practised as an independent Collision Investigation Consultant, and he continues exercise his training qualification, training ambulance authority personnel. Phil ‘s expert Collision Investigation experience giving evidence in criminal and civil Courts , extends over more than twenty years.
